A day on the road with ... Reiner Elferink
The truck driver has been working in the heavy duty transport sector for 30 years. He has a lot to say and is always good for a witty line. When it comes to vehicles, he has a wealth of experience. His assessment of the new MAX710 lowbed trailer is therefore well founded: “The vehicle impresses with its compactness and flexibility,” says Reiner Elferink. “Short setup times, simple operation – that really saves time on a day-to-day basis. We mainly drive construction machines from A to Z. And do so very often, things have gone wonderfully so far.“ Today he is accompanied by his son, Justin, who takes care of escorts and permits and has long since been gripped by a passion for heavy loads himself.
Power pack for every day
This time there is a 56-tonne crusher on the lowbed trailer. A final inspection, then Reiner Elferink gets into his MAN, starts the engine and sets off for the company’s own quartz sand quarry in Haltern am See. The last stage takes him between rows of trees. A typical construction site terrain awaits him there with uneven tracks, tight bends and narrow lanes. No problem for the MAX710: The 19.5” pendle-axles show what they can do with their high lift and large steering angle. “It simply remains stable, come whatever. The MAX710 follows my tractor unit as if pulled by a string,” says the heavy goods expert whilst he takes the vehicle combination precisely to its destination.
The huge sand hills catch the eye like cliffs in the distance. With a trained eye, the lowbed trailer is steered to its final position. A quick hello to his colleagues in the wheel loader, then it is time to release the tensioning devices. The compact front bogie is uncoupled from the lowbed – one quick action, a scrutinizing look. “That works super fast,” he says satisfactorily. “And although we are driving a 2+4-axle combination, our overall length remains under 23 metres. I can really get anywhere with it.“ The dull thud of the crusher sounds through the quarry when it is guided off the lowbed trailer.
Reliability that counts
For B&B, the MAX710 has established itself as a genuine enhancement in no time at all – reliable, robust and well thought out. “There is genuine reliance on it, and I would no longer like to be without the vehicle,” emphasises Reiner Elferink. The complete metallisation ensures optimum corrosion protection. Another plus point, which pays off over the long term in demanding operations on construction sites. What remains is a lowbed trailer that combines practicality, compactness and fitness for the future. Or, as Reiner Elferink puts it: “Right from the start I had this certain connection to the vehicle – it’s simply fun.”
